RPG Council

The Vong Question
In the past, we had decided that not enough information was available about the Yuuzhan Vong to have them as characters in our game, and closed the game to that species of character. More recently the Council was discussing the possibility of incorporating the Yuuzhan Vong into the RPG, but we were divided on the issue. So we turned to the players, who seemed equally divided. For the moment we have decided to keep the old rule in effect and develop other storylines. The Vong will no doubt come up again.

Council Plans
Be on the lookout for new storylines centered on reviving the New Republic and Empire conflict!

Rulings
Rating rules are still in effect: here at SWC we follow a policy of "fade to black" for extremely sexual and violent situations. Keep this in mind as your characters go through the universe.

A Sudden Spell... By Mish

I'm as much a fan of Harry Potter and other new films as everyone else, and in fact am off to see the film this afternoon (and quite excited about it at that!), but lately the Council has been concerned with a sudden influx of 'witch' and 'wizard' like characters. The word Dathomiri automatically springs to mind, and it's okay... However, most of these characters aren't from Dathomiri at all. It seems that before a fantasy film comes out, especially if it's set up to be a blockbuster, characters begin to trickle through which, shall we say, aren't exactly Star Warsian in their origin.

We understand that inspiration for characters has to come from somewhere, and characters too much like Luke Skywalker or Kyp Durron are likely as not, going to be asked for a resubmission, but try not to make your character too much like Harry Potter or Hermione Granger (or even Neville Longbottom!) because if you do, besides being a little out-of-place in the Star Wars universe, those who haven't read the novels/seen the film etc of the particular fandom your character was heavily influenced by, aren't going to understand what you're talking about, or how your character came to be, even with a decent character bio!

We understand that the Star Wars fandom might not be as strong in some than their interest in other fandoms (...The Force is strong in this one...) but we'd just like to remind you that this is Star Wars, not Harry Potter, or Lord Of The Rings, or The Hitchhiker's Guide (that might have been wishful thinking on my part) and whichever obsession is at the height of it's power, Star Wars is always going to be there, as well as the others. There are plenty of RPGs out there focused on other fandoms, although they may not have as friendly people or as amazing councillors as SWC (was that a blatant plug?) they can still quench that unstoppable force (or Force, perhaps?) for creative writing.

The one thing which we hold above all others here at SWC is that we all have fun and enjoy the result of our collective and individual creative genius. (But if I'm warning you, if I ever get an orc...) So keep those characters diverse, and keep 'em coming, as well as to continue writing up to your usual standards, and it'll continue to be great fun for all involved!

Galactic News - The Maw Chronicles

Female Born to Diplomat
Loria Aneed, Dathomir Times

Anthea Omarian was born recently on an undisclosed planet to Lady Talitha Astarta-Omarian, daughter of Lord Enud Astarta of Dathomir. The father is Tristan Omarian, estranged husband of Lady Omarian, and now dark Jedi. Anthea is currently being cared for on an undisclosed planet due to possible threats to her life and force abilities. Lord Astarta does report that the mother and child are both quite well, squashing any evidence of a possible illness by Lady Omarian who left Dathomir sometime ago.

"She is quite well and happy, absorbed in her work and in her child," he says. He has no comment about any further romances saying only, "That is for my daughter to decide, but I doubt there will be another."

Rumors are going around after the ball on the Hapes Cluster about a possible alliance with Lord Huxanto, formerly of Alderraan, but Lord Huxanto quickly squelched these rumors, "She is interested in nothing, in no man and especially not in a diplomat, she is only interested in herself. There is no place in her life for anyone."

Upon hearing this, Lord Astarta only replied, "She is interested in her work and in Anthea, the rest will come."

Tristan Omarian is rumored to be on Dathomir, where he is seen with a gang of sith.
